If you already have a passport, check the expiration
date now. It must be valid for at least 6 months after the completion
of your EAP program.
How to apply for a new passport or
a renewal:
- Download your application at http://travel.state.gov/.
- Turn in your passport application
at the UCSB Rec
Cen Cashiers Office! Or at Santa
Barbara County Clerk’s Office at 1101 Anacapa
Street, Santa Barbara (805-568-2250).
- Expedite your passport through the
U.S. Passport Agency at 11000 Wilshire Blvd. #1000,
Los Angeles, CA 90024
(310-575-5700 for a mandatory appt.).
Non-U.S.
Citizens
You will need to contact your home country’s nearest
consulate or embassy in order to find out the passport
application procedure. Non-U.S. citizens will also need
to contact Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS)

their legal return to the U.S.

You may only apply for one program
per term abroad. If you would like to apply for two back-to-back programs, consult your EAP advisor for your desired
second program.
The following are required for all applications:

- Transcripts
- Academic Planning Form
- Statement of Purpose
- Copy of Passport
The following are required for some programs:
- Letter(s) of Recommendation
- Language Evaluation
- Other forms required by the host university

EAP is able to accept most all qualified applicants. There are, however, a few impacted programs. If the program you are considering is frequently impacted, we suggest you assemble a strong application, be prepared for your interview, and also have a second choice in mind. You will be contacted as soon as possible after the deadline to inform you if the number of applicants exceeds capacity and of your application status. If you are not selected for your first choice, you may have the option of being an alternate or switching your application over to another program.

you cannot just drop it off in an envelope or have
a friend deliver it.
Please turn in your application ON THE DUE DATE! We sit down with each person and review their application with them. We do not have sufficient staff to accomodate early applications.

The check-in process will take 15-30 minutes. We expect to receive up to 150 applications
each day so allow yourself extra time, as you might have
to wait up to an hour in line.

- Academic performance, especially in courses applicable to program coursework (i. e.- language courses or special focus programs)
- Clear academic goals and awareness of how intended program will contribute to academic progress at UCSB.
- Complete, organized application
- Demonstrated knowledge of program and host country. This is a common topic in interviews.
- Social and cross-cultural sensitivity; maturity; ability to adapt successfully to a different environment and a new education system; ability to assess and exhibit appropriate behavior in a variety of situations.
- Each program will have specific requirements regarding language level, class level, and GPA.

EAP participants are given no exceptional consideration regarding UCSB residence, although those who participate as seniors may receive an exception, with prior approval from their college. Courses taken on EAP will not satisfy the residency requirement.
- The completion of 3 terms in residence at UC Santa Barbara.
- Completion of 20 upper-division units in a major in residence at UC Santa Barbara. This applies to double majors as well. And remember that you need 20 separate units in residence in each major.
- Completion of 12 upper-division units in a minor in residence at UC Santa Barbara (if applicable);
- Completion of 27 total upper-division units in the college of the student's major, which includes the 20 above at UC Santa Barbara;
- Completion of 35 of the final 45 units required for graduation at UC Santa Barbara. If you participate in EAP as a senior; this may be modified to 35 of final 90 units with prior approval.

Student who has met the requirements above by the beginning of their senior year may, with the prior approval of their department and college advisor, graduate upon completion of the final term abroad, provided they have fulfilled all degree requirements with EAP work. Note: If students who are unable to fulfill all degree requirements while on EAP must return to UCSB and take at least 12 units to comply with the residence requirement and fulfill final degree obligations. (Even if only one course is needed, the student must still enroll in and complete a total of 12 units in residence at UCSB subsequent to the year abroad.

For those of you who have just transferred to UCSB, you will need to submit a UCSB transcript even though you may not have completed any coursework at this point. For those of you who are currently studying at another institution but plan to transfer to UCSB in the winter, spring, or fall 2009 quarter and are not living close to UCSB, you can mail in your application; but please 1) ensure that we receive it by the deadline, 2) ensure that all items are copied and organized in the order outlined in the application instructions and, 3) contact us to follow-up with the remaining requirements.
